Justin Sun: $75M into the family firm, a dinner seat, and a vanishing SEC case
Justin Sun - the Tron founder the SEC had charged in 2023 with fraud, selling unregistered securities, and market manipulation - invested $30 million in World Liberty Financial in November 2024 and another $45 million in January 2025, about $75 million in all, becoming the venture's most prominent public backer and an adviser. In February 2025 the SEC moved to pause its fraud case against him. Sun then became the single largest holder of the $TRUMP memecoin, earning the top seat at the president's May 2025 exclusive dinner for major holders (CRY-07).
In March 2026 the SEC case - originally seeking penalties for alleged fraud and unregistered-securities violations - was settled with a $10 million fine paid by Sun's company Rainberry, a fraction of the exposure, part of the broader crypto-enforcement stand-down (OVR-07). The sequence - invest in the president's firm, buy the top dinner seat, watch the federal fraud case dissolve - is the cleanest single illustration of the pay-to-access dynamic around the family's crypto ventures.
The relationship later soured: in April 2026 Sun sued WLF alleging extortion, claiming he was denied promised WLFI voting rights and that wallets were frozen - a falling-out that does not undo the earlier pattern but complicates it.
