Freight Technologies earmarks up to $20M for $TRUMP, pitched as US-Mexico trade advocacy

What happened

On April 30, 2025, the Nasdaq-listed cross-border logistics microcap Freight Technologies (Fr8Tech) announced a $20 million convertible-note program earmarked to buy the $TRUMP memecoin - and, unusually, justified it almost entirely in terms of trade policy. Its press release and SEC filing centered on US-Mexico tariffs (Trump had imposed 25% tariffs on non-USMCA Mexican and Canadian goods) that threaten its cross-border business, calling the $TRUMP purchase 'an effective way to advocate for fair, balanced, and free trade between Mexico and the US.'

The candor is the point: a company publicly tied its purchase of the president's personal token to its desire to influence his tariff decisions - what one observer bluntly called a self-admitted bribe. CEO Javier Selgas invoked the top-holder dinner ecosystem (CRY-07); its filing with the SEC called the purchase an effective way to advocate for fair, balanced, and free trade between Mexico and the US. Fr8Tech initially executed ~$2M of the purchases, and its stock jumped over 111% on the announcement before falling 21.6% after hours.

It is the clearest documented case of a company openly buying the president's coin as policy advocacy - the pay-to-influence dynamic stated out loud rather than inferred.
