Trump Media's ~$2.5B bitcoin treasury ties the president's Trump Media stake to crypto

Scores: V 89, C 77, scored on September 27, 2026
What happened

On May 27, 2025, Trump Media & Technology Group - which the president majority-owns through a trust of which Don Jr. is sole trustee - announced it had entered subscription agreements with ~50 institutional investors to raise about $2.5 billion (~$1.5 billion in stock plus $1.0 billion in convertible notes) to build a bitcoin treasury. By July 2025 the company had accumulated roughly $2 billion in bitcoin and bitcoin-related securities, per its own SEC filings, giving it one of the largest corporate bitcoin treasuries of any public firm.

TMTG also pursued crypto ETF products (via Crypto.com/Yorkville) and, its filings note, bitcoin-treasury hedging that earned $44 million through a covered-put options strategy; the company reported financial assets growing from roughly $200 million to about $2.5 billion by the end of 2025. This converts the president's flagship holding from a money-losing social-media company into a leveraged bet on an asset class his own administration is elevating (the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, CRY-11) and deregulating (OVR-07, CRY-06).

The conflict is direct: the president's Trump Media stake is now a crypto-treasury vehicle whose value rises with bitcoin, while his administration takes unprecedented steps to boost bitcoin's legitimacy and price. The same ticker (DJT) that jumped 22.67% on his 'great time to buy' post (GOV-02) is the treasury company.
