Truth API: selling financial firms a head start on the president’s own posts

Scores: V 76, C 68, scored on September 27, 2026
What happened

On July 16, 2026 Trump Media announced Truth API, a licensed business-to-business feed of posts from the highest-ranking accounts on Truth Social, available to institutional customers from August 1. The pitch was explicit about what was being sold. "Markets already move on Truth Social posts," the company's interim chief executive said, describing the service as a real-time feed of the platform's most market-moving posts and a high-margin, recurring revenue stream. The highest-ranking account on the platform is the president's.

The element is the ownership, and it is in the company's own filing. Trump Media's amended annual report records that the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust holds 114,750,000 shares, 41 percent of the company, and that the president is the trust's settlor and sole beneficiary. Revenue from selling early access to his own posts therefore accrues to an entity of which he is the sole beneficiary. Contracts generally run between $60,000 and $100,000 a month, and the company said it had more than ten customers, mostly high-frequency trading firms. Two senators asked the Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate before the August 1 launch, calling the plan an abuse of the office of the president for his personal gain.

The company's defence is that nothing is being disclosed early. Customers receive publicly available posts fractionally faster, it says, rather than any information the public does not have. No court has ruled and no enforcement action has been brought. In September 2026 the San Francisco City Attorney filed a civil suit in the Superior Court of California alleging that the service charges select customers for priority access to the president's posts and that this creates financial gain for the company and for him through the 41 percent stake he holds through the trust.

Evidence status
Documented; the product announcement, the ownership filing and the civil complaint are all primary documents
Legal status
A civil suit under California’s Unfair Competition Law is pending. No court has ruled, no enforcement action has been brought, and the company denies that any non-public information is sold
Estimated value
Contracts reported at $60,000 to $100,000 a month with more than ten customers. The president holds 41 percent of the company through a revocable trust of which he is settlor and sole beneficiary. No total revenue figure is public, and the 41 percent stake is not valued here: see Left out
