Awarding himself the G20: the 2026 summit goes to Trump National Doral

Scores: V 68, C 68, scored on September 27, 2026
What happened

On September 5, 2025, Trump announced the United States will host the December 14-15, 2026 G20 summit at his own Trump National Doral Miami - reviving, with the concentrated power of a second term, the exact plan he was forced to abandon in October 2019, when awarding the G7 to Doral drew bipartisan emoluments outrage and he retreated within 48 hours.

This time there was no retreat. Trump chairs the summit he located at his family's revenue-generating property. Delegations of the world's largest economies - plus invited states including Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan - will lodge, eat, and stage events in facilities whose owner sets their trade and security agendas, and whose resort gains a permanent 'host of the G20' marketing asset. Trump has said the property will host at cost, an assertion that cannot be audited from outside.

CREW filed FOIA requests for the records of how Doral was selected over federal and neutral venues; the selection process, any competitive assessment, and the cost accounting remain undisclosed.
