Selling the People's House: the corporate-sponsored Easter Egg Roll

Scores: V 78, C 67, scored on September 27, 2026
What happened

For the first time, the 2025 White House Easter Egg Roll - a public event dating to 1878, traditionally funded by the American Egg Board specifically to keep corporate advertising off the grounds - was underwritten by corporate sponsors. Through an outside production company, Harbinger, the White House solicited packages from $75,000 to $200,000; a nine-page brochure obtained by CNN promised logo placement, 'media and PR exposure' before the White House press corps, and, at the top tier, a custom 30'x30' branded activation plus four tickets to brunch with the First Lady and a meet-and-greet or White House tour.

Sponsors included YouTube (the 'Bunny Hop Stage'), Amazon (the 'Reading Nook'), Meta (an 'AI-Powered Experience'), and the NYSE - the same class of companies with business and enforcement exposure before the administration that later funded the ballroom (GOV-04). The money was routed to the nonprofit White House Historical Association, which the White House cited as the propriety fix.

The event repeated with corporate sponsors in 2026. The conflict is the conversion of a public, taxpayer-grounds tradition into branded ad inventory sold to regulated corporations for access and exposure at the White House.
