“We have added 70,000 new construction jobs.”
The Bureau of Labor Statistics jobs report available when he spoke showed construction employment up 44,000 from January 2025 to January 2026, and BLS described construction employment as essentially flat in 2025. Revised BLS data now put the January-to-January gain at 53,000, still short of 70,000. Only a window starting at the series low in August 2025 yields more than 70,000, and he gave no start date beyond 'in just a very short period of time.' The same BLS release revised total 2025 job growth down from 584,000 to 181,000. "Employment in construction was essentially flat in 2025."
