“Grocery prices are way down. We have a little problem with beef. We're going to get that down very quickly. But the prices are way down.”
Grocery prices are up, not down. Bureau of Labor Statistics data show average grocery prices rose about 2.7% between September 2024 and September 2025, and about 1.4% since January 2025, and the July-to-August 2025 jump of 0.6% was the biggest one-month grocery spike in three years. 'Every price is down' is the opposite of what the CPI shows. Individual staples bear it out: ground beef hit a record $6.10 per pound in June 2025, up 11.1% since January. The USDA's Economic Research Service projected food-at-home prices would rise 2.2% over 2025. University of Michigan economist Justin Wolfers put it bluntly to CNN: 'Almost every category of goods or services sees the prices rising.' A few items did fall, notably eggs, as the avian-flu outbreak eased, but cherry-picking those does not make 'every price is down' true. CNN named the 'prices are down' line one of what it called Trump's biggest lies of 2025, and FactCheck.org, CBS News and others reached the same conclusion using BLS and USDA data.
