“Kamala was the border czar. ... She never went to the border.”
She went to the border twice as vice president, and both visits are documented. The Biden White House published her remarks to the press at El Paso International Airport on June 25, 2021, and a reporter there asked her how she had decided that this was the right time to make her first trip to the border. Her spokesperson had confirmed the El Paso visit two days earlier as her first trip to the United States and Mexico border as vice president. On September 27, 2024 she toured the border wall with Border Patrol agents in Douglas, Arizona.
The border czar half of the claim has a basis, and that is its best defence. She did hold a role leading the administration's response to a steep increase in migration, which is where the label comes from. Two documented visits is a thin record for that role, but it is not never.
