“I ended seven wars. And in all cases, they were raging with countless, thousands of people, being killed. This includes Cambodia and Thailand; Kosovo and Serbia; the Congo and Rwanda, a vicious violent war that was; Pakistan and India; Israel and Iran; Egypt and Ethiopia; and Armenia and Azerbaijan.”
Two of the "wars" on Trump's list never existed. Egypt and Ethiopia have never been at war during his presidency: theirs is a long-running diplomatic dispute over a Nile River dam that Ethiopia completed in July 2025 and that remains unresolved, with Egypt arming Somalia in response. And fact-checkers found "little evidence a potential war was brewing" between Serbia and Kosovo. PolitiFact rated Trump's UN claim Mostly False.
The DRC-Rwanda "peace" did not hold. After the June 27, 2025 deal was signed at the State Department, M23 rebels, still reportedly backed by Rwandan forces, killed at least 319 civilians, including 48 women and 19 children, in just a 12-day stretch in July, and a September UN human rights report documented a massacre weeks after the signing. The Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire likewise collapsed into mutual accusations and violent skirmishes, with Thailand voting to close the border indefinitely.
Where ceasefires did ease fighting (Israel-Iran, India-Pakistan, Armenia-Azerbaijan), factcheckers found they were "mostly incremental accords without a certainty of long-term peace," and some leaders dispute Trump's role entirely. India's government publicly denied that Trump brokered its ceasefire with Pakistan. A Stanford expert noted the Armenia-Azerbaijan deal was paved by battlefield realities, not Trump: "the hard choices were made by the leaders of the states themselves."
"The status of the seven conflicts — and the nature of Trump's role in easing them — are more varied and tenuous than his statement portrays. We rate it Mostly False." — PolitiFact, Sept. 23, 2025
